"Top-Kill" Has Failed

BP is moving along to "Junkshots" and other more desperate measures. They're saying this at The Oil Drum, and NYT has picked it up here. If its true, and junkshot fails (very likely at this point) then every couple of days = one Exxon Valdez, for the next 90 days, until they drill a relief well, if they get the relief well right the first time.

They're talking about deliberately torching the Louisiana Coastline to burn off oil that's washed ashore. Can't find the link right now, but they are.

Planning to go South this year? B.C. is a nice alternative.

Sure Mike, BC is a great alternative until that flake who calls himself our premier gets his offshore "drill baby, drill" effort underway. I'm guessing Campbell is waiting to see if his popular support recovers from his HST fiasco enough to quietly go ahead with the exploration phase.

It's "drill, baby, spill" now and don't you forget it!

Alberta's oil sands look pretty good now.

Yeah, have the environmental disaster off in Northern Alberta, where nobody apparently cares what you do. ;)

If we're going to rely on CCS to store CO2 from Tar Sands extraction, we better be sure we know how to stop a leak of CO2 from fractured bedrock if our wonderful technology fails us again. Also, figure out how to prevent toxins from leaking out of the tailings ponds into the water table. Also, figure out how to restore thousands of years old boreal forest. Yeah, the Tar Sands look really good.

Nice try Elroy. Look over there - that's even worse than we are! Your logic is pretty lame. I suppose if Alberta had any oil sands they might look pretty good. Trouble is they don't. What they do have are Tar Sands. When you've got to boil it out of the ground, it ain't oil.
