$10,000,000 For A Beer Tent?

The feds have been taking some flack for the Canadian Olympic pavilion in Vancouver and, yeah, it looks like a beer tent. But this site shows a number of the big pavilions for comparison purposes, and for the most part they incline towards the ugly. Alberta House resembles a bus shelter. Saxony House looks like a ginger-bread chalet. And what the hell is that?
Its Irish House, and its definitely (and proudly) a gigantic beer tent. Being right located right next to a pub (Doolin's Irish), it even allows you to simulate an old fashioned Belfast pub crawl, as made famous in Jame Joyce's Ulysses. Just don't get nicked by the Bulls!

Wow. Remember the architecture for Expo 67? Groundbreaking stuff. This looks like those cheap steel sheds you see all over the cash-strapped rural areas.

They all look like internment camp barracks. Maybe they know something the rest of us don't?

*ugh* Can't wait until this is all over.

I don't like it either but protesting is just going to make it more expensive. I just want the whole thing to go away as fast as possible.

Looks like a shed on the homestead when my Dad still had his farm. I half expect a John Deere 4020 pull a set of press drills out of there. Judging from the exterior, if they spent more than $30K for it, they got hosed.

I'll go even further..

I personally hope these Olympics are disrupted extensively by protest, Harper and his minions get booed mercilessly at every opportunity and Team Canada bombs miserably. And that includes our goon-squad mens hockey team. This extravaganza is a colossal waste of time, money and resources. Fuck the Twenty-first Olympiad.

How much more? Figures, please.

Free expression, peaceable protest, is the foundation of a free democracy.

However - it so often degrades into riots and looting and physical assualts on those who happen to disagree with those protesting.

Hey, I agree that the Olympics are a joke. I didn't bother to go to Calgary's, 100 miles away, and I was in Vancouver two weeks ago, but wouldn't dream of going to their Olympics either.

But.

I'm always curious about this sort of suggestion.. advocating disruptive protests, because it's really just a step away from anarchy.

I would find it amusing to see the response, for example, if a group of athletes or organizers showed up at a protester's place of work and yelled and screamed at anyone trying to enter, or, better yet, started throwing rocks through their windows, and pushing their visitors around to "express their opinions".

You know, simply making sure that their ability to do their job is "disrupted extensively".
