LifeSiteNews Trashed: Catholic On Catholic Violence!

Meet Fr. Tom Rosica's:

"We have an agency in Canada functioning called LifeSite. It purports itself to be a news service for the areas and issues of life. I will say very publicly to those listening - it is not credible, it does not speak for the Church, it is not ethical, it is not honest."

"I encourage people to know that this is not an authentic instrument at the service of unity and at the service of the Church. It is causing division."

"For the one-tenth of kernel of truth that they purport to uncover (and there is truth in what they do) nine-tenths is exaggeration. It is bombastic, it is derisive and it is divisive."

"I think we have to be very clear and say that part of the work of Satan is to divide - to pit people against each other and they are succeeding quite well."

I am so glad someone within The Church has summoned up the Nads to take a swing at these people. They don't seem to understand anything but rhetorical overkill.

Anyway, here's Gruending's angle on Lifesite, from back in July.

Is Lifesite actually Catholic at all though? They've always struck me as more in line with the Evangelical Protestant Lunatic Fringe.

The Catholic Church, for all its many faults, is a part of the real world. They can deny communion to an NDP backbench MP for supporting equal marriage, but if they deny a funeral to a Ted Kennedy, Pierre Trudeau or René Lévesque, they know perfectly well they can pack their bags and go back to Rome. North American Catholics wouldn't tolerate it. They see the Church the way we see our crazy old bigoted relatives. They know change isn't possible and it's best to ignore them. So if Crazy Auntie Gwen wants to rave on an one about skirts being too short and too many of "those people" being allowed in the country her family just rolls their eyes. But if she starts throwing wine glasses at Cousin Ted for getting a divorce, she won't be invited to Sunday dinner anymore. Crazy Auntie Gwen isn't QUITE that crazy.
