Wind At Our Back?

...or meaningless twitches in the numbers?

A survey by Angus Reid Strategies for the Toronto Star shows the federal Liberals with 34 per cent support and the Conservatives with 33 per cent – a statistical dead heat. The result is a warning for any party thinking of plunging into a fall election: No wind of change is blowing across Canada.

The CPoC vote share hasn't changed since the last go round, but the Libs are up four points. Stephen Harper seems to be defying the conventional wisdom that a government's polling numbers improve during summer when they can traipse about handing out money. And I don't know when the polling period for this latest survey ended--is it possible that the return of wafer-gate has actually damaged the Tory numbers?

Meanwhile, my secret sources tell me that this latest Tory scandal is about to get even deeper--its no longer just about crackers! Now there's pork rinds involved!!!

Not to put too fine a point on things, but I'd like to know why the Liberals have been so terminally silent this summer.

Harper's been spouting some absolute whopper lies, and the silence from the opposition parties in calling those lies out is disappointing.

The latest is the Home Renovation Tax Credit - which the government is touting to the public, and has yet to even introduce supporting legislation to Parliament.

I hate to say it, but every time Harper lies (and it is all but constant), he has to be called out.

I don't know about the Liberals joining the ten-percenter propaganda war. We all know that the Conservative hive-mind can speak out in a unified chorus of outrage to denounce this (as it should be) while completely unburdened by the discomfort of hypocrisy.

I guess we'll see. Maybe they should attempt to produce more humorous ten-percenters than the juvenile crap the Conservatives have been churning out for the past three years.

The examples mentioned here make them sound pretty mild:

This one isn't so objectionable:

"This spring, constituents in Conservative MP Steven Fletcher's riding of Charleswood-St.James-Assiniboia received messages from B.C. Liberal MP Hedy Fry.

The flyers pointed out a newspaper story about Mr. Fletcher delivering a speech at the University of Manitoba that some students complained was too partisan."

At least it's about an issue relevant to the riding's constituents.

The hundreds I've received have just been stupid attack ads aimed at the leaders of the political parties.
